Palazzo Bacile di Castiglione

The Palazzo is an ideal place to organise courses and events. With a great variety of indoor and outdoor space, groups can work together but also find spots to relax in privacy..

Botanists, artists and food lovers are amongst those who have enjoyed courses whilst families and friends come to celebrate special events such as weddings and anniversaries.

Please contact us if you would like to run your own course or organise an event here.

The Castle Week

Dates throughout the year

Pick fruit from the trees on the massive castle grounds and - depending on the season - turn them into limoncello, marmalade or even the region’s famous quince dessert, la cotognata. We cook together and make pasta everyday in one of the castle’s seven kitchens.

Creative Writing for Beginners

 1st – 8th September, 2018

If you’ve often ‘fancied writing’, but simply don’t know where to start, then this is the week for you.  Join writer Glynis Charlton for a residential week of friendly workshops in the beautiful secluded surroundings of Palazzo Bacile di Castiglione.

The Week

Glynis will help you find your way into writing, giving you plenty of tips and techniques as you go along.  You’ll create believable characters, get them talking, and put them in all kinds of settings, then see what they do.

There are four workshops, all in the mornings, giving you the rest of the day to read, write, amble, or simply soak up the sun by the pool. Wednesday is kept completely free, for those of you wanting to explore further afield. You might like to visit the weekly market in nearby Poggiardo, the open thermal baths of Santa Cesarea, or the wonderfully baroque city of Lecce.

Glynis offers one-to-one feedback (two half hour sessions per person, by arrangement) and is on hand to help with any trips you might wish to make.

The price includes accommodation in one of the delightful self-contained cottages around the swimming pool

Your well-equipped kitchen, with delicious local produce, leaves you free to begin your day at your own leisurely pace.  Each cottage has its own small terrace, with shaded table and seating, and of course the pool is right there, for that early swim.

Dinner with a glass of wine is included each evening and a delicious buffet lunch awaits you on each of the workshop days.

Getting Here

Details of how to reach the Palazzo are shown here.  Subject to demand, for those flying into Brindisi by Ryanair on the morning of Saturday 1st September, transfer to the Palazzo will be included in the price. We will happily arrange other transfers by request, but please note there is a charge for these.

Feel like dipping a toe in the water?
